Appointed by the National Trust, ARB Architecture Ltd prepared and submitted a listed building application for the refurbishment and alterations to this Grade II listed cottage, together with the preparation of a variety of works schedules and marketing information required to move the proposals forward.

These improvements and alterations allowed the property to be offered for rent by the National Trust and modernised the facilities of the property.

The new works are intended to be respectful of the existing fabric and the setting using high quality materials designed in sub-ordinate and harmonious arrangements. All repairs and redecorations to the House were carried out using like for like materials in style and colour.

The external changes were kept to a minimum with the addition of new ‘conservation’ style roof lights, replacing the glass tiles in the roof of the old study and cottage.

The layout of the House remained primarily the same, with the addition of a first floor family bathroom, the ground floor en-suite and a new draft lobby to the rear. The proposals were planned to work within the existing arrangements of the House, keeping fabric alteration minimal.
